APA is a progressive animal welfare organization seeking to improve the quality of life for companion animals in Dona Ana County and greatly reduce the number of unwanted animals impounded and euthanized at the municipal shelter.

Action for Animals (APA)

Since May 2012, we have rescued more than 6,000 animals.

The majority of these have been dogs and cats/kittens pulled from our municipal shelter.

We are able to do this through the tireless volunteer work of our rescue/foster coordinators, foster families, weekend adoptions, and on a very tight, shoe-string budget. Please consider joining us!

APA Adoption and Education Center, 537 N. Solano., Las Cruces, NM, 88001

Adoption follow-up Monday features APA alums Pebbles and Armstrong, now Milk and Bean. They were adopted together as kittens!
We strongly urge adopting kittens in pairs--so much so that we always waive the second adoption fee. It's best for the cats and you that they have feline company, especially when you are not home.

We also took in senior boy Bear this week; he was owner relinquished. This poor little guy is 10+ years and came in looking pretty matted. He got his makeover at Doggy Shop Grooming. We appreciate them for their discounted services!
Bear needs a dental and will likely lose all his teeth. He'll be available soon for meets and greets. See his intake assessment video in the comments with our Effie.

We pulled Angie from the shelter recently. At 8-9 years old and in poor condition, she wasn't an attractive transport candidate. But--at APA--she's our kind of gal!
She got a much-needed grooming makeover this week from volunteer Sheri. We are forever grateful for her donated services!!
Angie needs surgery for bladder stones and a dental. Once we take care of her medical needs, she'll be ready for meets and greets and a restful, loving home.

Today's clinic stats:
Number of cars: 67
Rabies vaccines - 113
DAPA dog boosters - 89
FVRCP cat boosters - 24
Bordatella vaccines - 24
Microchips - 33
And it's the end of an era! We made the decision today (with our vet) that this was the last of APA's low-cost clinics. We have been doing them since 2012--for 12 years! We've administered more than 50,000 vaccines and thousands of microchips in that time. But, we realize there are vastly more options for these services in DAC now, and not only do we not like to duplicate efforts or compete in a saturated environment, our vet and the rest of us are ready to close up shop.
Thanks to ALL the volunteers today and from the last decade+. We did good!!
